Ectropion

Ectropion refers to turning of the eyelid away from the eyeball. It usually affects the lower eyelid and can cause irritation but no pain. The eye may also be watery as a result of this condition.

Ectropion may be age related or may be caused as a result of previous injury or surgery including lower lid blepharoplasty.

How can ectropion be treated?

The treatment is usually surgical and the choice of procedure depends on the extent and severity of the condition. If the condition is mild and you are not symptomatic surgery is not always required. The operation can safely be performed under local anaesthesia and there is no need to stay in hospital.

Entropion

Entropion refers to turning of the eyelid towards the eyeball. It often affects the lower lid and can cause severe irritation to the eye as eyelashes rub against the eyeball surface. When upper eyelid is affected the discomfort is more severe and damage is more serious.
